In order to make ocean passages more enjoyable, a boat needs to be comfortable, strong, forgiving, fast and low maintenance. Our goal at Offshore Sailboats is to create boats that comply with these criteria. The Offshore 42 is a sailboat that is very comfortable and easy to sail as her hull is optimized for smooth motion and low resistance through the water. Rather than a high top speed, the focus of the hull design is a high average speed on passages under various conditions. The hull shape is based on what we have learnt from the Expedition 50, a well-proven offshore sailboat that has been put to the test for over 50,000 miles by the designer himself.
The structure exceeds all minimum international requirements imposed on boats. The result: a boat you could accidentally put on a sandbank at full speed without having to worry about the keel structure. Or you could unintentionally sail through a squall with too much sail up without having to worry that the rig will come down.
The over-sized winches and deck hardware insures that the wear is very low, minimizing maintenance cost and time. Systems are straightforward and simple, making them low cost and easy to maintain. Maintenance will be as painless a possible by placing the systems in such a way that there is easy access at all times. Only gear that we have personally tested for endurance in the harsh climate of offshore sailing will be installed as standard on the Offshore 42. On top of that, we make sure that it is gear that is available on all continents.
The Offshore 42 will be equipped with the necessities to go to sea, with the option to have some additional gear added during the building process or after you take delivery. This gives the client more flexibility to choose how much money they want to invest before going cruising. The boat is designed with all major equipment in mind, and drawings will be supplied with the boat to make retrofitting of equipment as low cost and stress free as possible.
